Don't be fooled by the tool with roller bearings, you will never know exactly how much your taking off your Saddle by turning those knobs. With SADDLEMASTER you know exactly how much your taking off.~ Hi Kase ...
First off the tool is beautiful. Nice workmanship and very solid. I have shown it to several people and promoted your brilliant design. Now I haven't used it yet. I had a Taylor the other day and even though I had calculated how many 000's to take off, I struggle to only take off that much. And I was using Stewmac's new version with the rolling bearings. I like yours better. You can be 100% solid and confident that you know what's going to happen underneath with your design. Not with the one stewmac is selling.
Congrats on a great design. Can't wait to use it for real. Rick
I've used your Saddle Master a couple of times now with good results. But in a moment of weakness I also ordered one of the saddle sanding jigs from eBay, the type that has the four wheels that you mentioned. (What can I say, I just love tools.) But I promptly sent it back. Turns out the way you use one of those is to turn the screws to protrude the saddle blank just enough to keep the wheels from rolling, and that then gives you your Zero point. BUT, that point is not with the blank flush with the bottom of the jig, but rather proud about 0.014" or so. You then turn the screws to get the addition blank exposed, but you're measuring by difference, not the exact amount exposed. A very unsatisfying way to do things, and sure to make getting a saddle sanded to within 0.010" or so much more of a challenge.
Cheers,
~ Amazing Acoustic Guitar Saddle Tool, Extremely Accurate, Simple to Use, Thanks!
~ Very high quality construction; simple, clean and very heavy will last a lifetime
The SADDLEMASTER is designed to remove material from the bottom of the guitar saddle in a very precise way keeping the bottom surface of the saddle perpendicular to its sides while doing it, which is critical to proper pickup function and sound. Whether you're setting up the action or installing an under saddle pickup, you will find this tool to be just what you're looking for.
The SADDLEMASTER comes with two sets of feeler gauges that allow the tool to take the exact amount of material off without guessing. The full kit includes the instruction manual the base assembly, push pin, shoe guard, feeler gauge set and Allen wrench. You will have to furnish your own flat sanding surface, I purchased a flat granite 12x12 tile at Home Depot for about .00 and put four felt pads on the bottom of the plate and it works very well. I like to use 150 or 180 grit 3M Wetordry Paper on the plate.
The SADDLEMASTER is made in the USA with the exception of the feeler gauges, Allen wrench and couple of screws. I personally made the feeler gauge pouches myself.
